Been editing the GENE Radio website pages today and been sorting out new pictures to be added and presenters profiles to be updated. Hopefully will look really good when its done.

Thats all I can do on it for now so now to do some of the show editing ready for podcasting.

Hey everyone, I'm a newer member of the GENE team and yesterday I spent the day with another GENE member Emily doing features for the next two shows (March & April). Emily taught me how to work some of the equipment that helps to bring you guys an amazing show every month. So tune in these next month and listen out for our feature on Boy Bands & Girl Bands. Hi GENE supporters,
Just updating the GENE web site and Facebook pages after todays show. It was an exciting show for three Brownies who came along to the studio to see how the GENE show is made. This was part of their prize for winning the jingle competition. Well done girls and I hope you had a good time. Now the centenary is over we will be looking for more events and features to cover on the shows, if you have any ideas do let us know! I'm busy catching up on GENE paperwork and getting ready to record more features ready for the next show.

WOW 100

On arrival I was amazed at the sheer size of the area and amount of yellow, red and blue girls there were running around. The moment I got off the bus, the atmosphere of the thousands girl guides hit me with pure excitement and joy. The field had tents erected everywhere all with new people sheltered underneath from the sharp wind.

Just from entry I could see a miniature bell tower and hand bells, a myriad of inflatables, bungee trampolines and plenty of smiling faces. After signing in I found the GENE gazebo with the Anglia van along with the team setting everything up. We all started to pin up photos, blew up balloons (which we also had to chase after every time we let go!!!), setting up the TV and CD player and finally, attracting LOADS of attention.

We sold our badges and quiz sheets along with the guiding ‘Bags for Life’ that were all very successful. We had a rota giving us the chance to explore the centenary celebration. The craft tent was over flowing with people creating flower hair clips, scarecrows, masks, badges, people made of corks and so much more including a table of beads to do as you wish.

We made DJ badges with our names on it before turning our attention to meeting new people. We had an EDI, still camera and filming camera to interview some of the girls and people at the stalls. There were Essex Bell Ringers (who were very popular with their hand bells and miniature tower bells), Story Telling, and Old Style Camp Site who received lots of questions and then came the more adventurous stuff!

Other than the inflatables, where DJ Emily got some great photos, there were bungee trampolines - with a queue of a couple of hours - and an elastic tower where there was a time limit to reach the top. Emily and climbed the tower with the Brownies getting plenty of photos then watched them disappear while we stayed high viewing the whole of the area. Soon a group of guides raced up giving us more fantastic photos and funny laughs.

At midday we met the fantastic team who put WOW 100 together for us along with the Colchester MP. They welcomed us to the day and then allowed us to continue as we were. The stage was taken over by some enthusiastic singers entertaining and involving the Brownies, Rainbows and even some guides. The Colchester MP and our lovely Bonnie Hill came and visited the GENE gazebo and I explained what it was we do. He was highly impressed and I discovered he holds the record for the youngest ever editor of local paper Madon and Burnham Standard.

Jonathon from Curtain Call Academy, a new performing arts stage school in Chelmsford, visited us and offered himself for an interview after he performed on stage! We also soon discovered that Emily and I would be interviewing Josh Dubovie who represented our country from Eurovision. There was also a new upcoming band performing who also were willing to be interviewed, they were Twisted Logistics.

After talking to lovely Jonathon from Curtain call, it was time to find our Guiding Star. Auditions took place in each division and performed at the stage of WOW 100. There was a panel of three judges; Bonnie Hill, Jonathon and Josh Dubovie. The girls of all ages were really brave in singing, dancing and even signing! The girl who won was a fantastic singer with such a powerful voice. She sung her heart out to Les Miserables’ famous tune On My Own and gave us all Goosebumps on our skin. She received a standing ovation and totally deserved to be our Guiding Star.

Then came Twisted Logistics who were so politely and kind not to mention a pleasure to interview. They were so enthusiastic! Emily took a photo of me with them and as backing up to get a great picture she fell backwards into a table and ended up on her bum. Fits of laughter filled everyone watching and even Emily herself giggled. They said that their ambition was to get everyone up and dancing and did easily! Girls fell in love with their music and they were mobbed for interviews once off the stage.

We found Josh Dubovie and did a quick interview and name-drop before he went on stage. We filmed and recorded him as he drove the girls wild with his smooth voice and cheeky smile with the occasional wink in our direction. He gave a draw dropping performance and everyone fell in love.

Overall it was a fantastic time! Everyone loved it. I was so grateful to have the opportunity.

Hey there!
The team had an amazing day at WOW 100 yesterday!
We had a super stand with shows and a DVD playing all day. As Sophie said we nearly sold out of our "I suport GENE" badges! I've ordered more today. The team worked so hard on the stand and around the showground taking photos, video and interviews. Josh Dubovie was lovely and did a great interview. Listen to our September show to hear Josh's interview. I've just sorted out all the GENE display material and have made up a small display to take to Yorkshire Centenary Camp...perhaps we will get listeners from all over the UK!

Hey everyone, yesterday i went to WOW 100 and it was such a great day! There were bouncy castles, craft tents, story telling, reptile tents, donkey rides, and much much more. There was a massive stage where performances took place throughout the day, including dog agility trials, majorettes, drama and dance groups, and singers.

As the GENE team we had a small marquee with posters, photos and information to let everyone know about the wonderful GENE. We were also selling 'i support GENE' badges which we nearly sold out of!! Hopefully we raised enough money to buy our camera :)

Throughout the day, members of the GENE team where out and about interviewing and speaking to people at the event, so hopefully we will be playing some of these interviews on the next show. The best part of the day was the evening performance. After standing in ques for ages to get our tea, everyone gathered in the arena to watch the evening entertainment which included the finalists of 'Guidings got talent', a band (which i cant remember the name of) and Josh Dubovie (he represented us in Eurovision) the much awaited act that all the girls went mad for, especially Bushra and Emily as they interviewed him after his performance.

It was such an amazing day!!

Rainbow Princess Party

Earlier on this week I went along to the Rainbow Princess Party at Castle Heddingham. All of the girls went along in Princess Dresses and took part in various activities throughout the day. The weather wasn't the best but the day went well and the girls seemed to enjoy themselves. Got a few interviews with various Rainbows and leaders during the day to go on the show tomorrow on who their favourite princess was, and what they had been getting up to throughout the day.

Last night I met some of the members of Gemini Rangers. They had devised a jingle for the jingle competition which I have recorded and will be played on the June show. I also gave the girls a short presentation on how exciting it is to be a member of the GENE team. I explained that GENE media included not only the radio show but also photography, video and reporting. The girls liked the idea of getting back stage passes to the Big Gig! I did explain that you did have to be a regular active member to be eligble to be considered! The girls were worried about the idea making a mistake on air, I assured them that we make loads of mistakes but if you don't point it out on air the listeners don't realise!! I also assured them that new members receive full training. The good new is that we have at least one new member who is coming along to the June show to meet the team! Centenary Walk

On Saturday there was 100 member of Girlguiding who ended up at Riffhams Scout Campsite after walking either 5 miles from Danbury or 10 miles from Galleywood Common.

There was a mixture of brownies, guides, rangers, leaders, parents and dogs who took part in the event. While we were all walking I had a chat with a few of the Brownies and Guides about where in the walk we were and see how they were keeping themselves entertained and managed to get some good recordings of people singing and describing where we were walking and what they could see.

The weather was hot and by the time we reached Riffhams for a BBQ there were some very hot and tired hikers! It was a really good day and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves.
Thankyou to the organisers and well done everyone who took part!

1st Writtle Guides

For the last 2 weeks on Friday nights, I have been at 1st Writtle Guides helping them record and put together their jingle for the competition. We recorded over 2 weeks as half the unit were at the Scout Hut on the first week and the other half were at doing another activity not at the Scout Hut and vice versa the following week. It meant that all of the girls got the chance to take part in the competition.

Like the Brownies they were very imaginitve with what they came up with and the jingles sound really good!

15th Chelmsford Trinity Brownies

Well I have just got back from visiting 17th Chelmsford Trinity Brownies which was great. Did some recordings for the GENE jingle competition. The girls were really imaginative with their jingles and have 3 or 4 very good jingles for the competition. Also recorded some of the rest of their evening when one of the girls got enroled as a Brownie and they also learnt the National Anthem.

Now I'm back home uploading all the photo's we took during the show onto our GENE Facebook group pages and the GG ENE web site. The team started planning next months show at lunchtime before the May show had even gone on air!

Chelmsford Gang Show

Last night I went to Chelmsford Gang Show where a group of Scouts and Guides from the area performed in what was a great show. The costumes, music, sketches and dancing was great and a lot of fun to watch. From Black Eyed Peas to We Will Rock You, Romeo and Juliet and some traditional songs there was certainly plenty of variety throughout the evening.
Before, during and after the show, I interviewed members of Guiding and Scouting about the show and what they thought of the evening. Also managed to get some Happy Birthday messages aswell which will be great for Sunday's show.

Well done to everyone in the cast! It was a great evening and I hope the rest of the weeks shows go well!

Mayor's Reception & Rangers visit

Well, I've had a really interesting evening at the Mayor's parlour and managed to get an interview with the Mayor and two Rangers from Chelmsford. Then I dropped into Gemini Rangers in Galleywood and got a recording of them singing Happy Birthday GENE. So that's a couple of items for the May show! :-)
